Pros

Excellent benefits with varied choices for medical insurance, tailored to your needs. Annual bonus of up to 10% of pay submitted to your 401k. Work/life balance is always a concern of management. Excellent support for education and knowledge advancement with many opportunities to expand your knowledge and earn industry certifications.

Cons

If you are used to a traditional government contracting environment, this may not be for you. While traditional government contracting positions are plentiful in this location, the business environment heavily leans toward Booz Allen's traditional consulting business. This means you will be expecting to operate in more of a consulting capacity, not just the technical ones you may be used to. So business/program management experience will come in handy, regardless of how technical the project you are working on. Work assignments are catch as catch can. Be prepareed to use your real-life social networking schools to get assigned on to the choice projects. If you wait for an assignment from your superiors, you will most likely be a checkmark on a preadsheeet, filling a position you may not be terribly interested or excited about. There is no matching on 401k. All you get is the up to 10% profit sharing bonus, and this does not kick in until you have been there for two years. Full vesting does not occur for five years. Most defense contractors in the area offer more attractive 401k matching funds, so this may be a concern for you.

Pros

It's good name recognition for your resume. It can give someone a lot of clout around Washington DC when they work at Booz Allen when compared to some of the other firms around here. It also gives a lot of insight to the way the consulting operations work, though they focus on government "consulting" rather than commercial. Booz Allen definitely has some opportunities for work-life balance, meaning, if you really want to work just a 40 hour week, there are opportunities here to do that. Don't expect big pats on the back for taking on a role like that, but it is not frowned upon neither.

Cons

Management really doesn't have visibility on what subordinates are doing. Sometimes it appears as if long as you are billable, they can care less about what you are doing. At the same time, networking really is the way to get ahead within the firm, but if you work on the client-site and never have that opportunity, you are at a big disadvantage. Booz Allen almost seems proud of the fact that they underpay their employees as well. When receiving a review and a pay raise for a promotion, my manager lauded the fact that Booz Allen does not pay as well as the firms in the area. They say it's due to the great benefits (which are actually nice), but moreso it is due to the fact that there is a MASSIVE overhead at Booz Allen and then the managers pocket the rest of the money as bonuses.
