Great employees, horrible managers

Pros

Great passion for the products, as well as for customers. Good work/life balance. Really smart people. Well known brand makes it easier to get a job elsewhere.

Cons

Waay to heirarchical. Too many chiefs, not enough indians. Many managers have only 2 direct reports. Sr. Managers are not held accountable for their lack of performance. Everyone has to weigh in, and they strive for unanimity, not consensus. There is no career advancement unless you firmly place your nose in the right places. The pay is substandard for all non-directors, and overly generous for the directors and above.

Pros

Bose has great products that are in a way easy to sell because the products sound good. After working for a period of time they give you whats called a "loaner system" which is basically a home theater system throughout the time you are employed. Bose tries to create happiness.

Cons

Little to no advancement. After working for several years you still rarely see any raise, and if you do its a joke especially for the amount of information they want you to memorize. You are severely penalized for not accomplishing a task to their standards. When customers purchase, its a give and take because you can be the best salesman and get all the customers who are "just looking" and on the other hand a completely hopeless sales person who gets the "walk ins" (people who know what they want and are in the store no longer than five minutes". Unfortunately we are all graded on how many sales we have and that other person can skew your numbers thus not allowing you to make the stores sales goal. Bose is also very micromanaged and there is no communication. Also employee reviews are done by your managers, if your not on their good side they throw you with the dogs. and then try to be your friends again... ridiculous
