Pros

It was a corporate nine to five, reliable with opportunity to work overtime. It filled the role of being a job to make scratch, and did so reliably for years. They always dealt with me squarely, so far one can do so in the corporate world, and they had a pretty relaxed business environment. It was definitely a tolerable place to work.

Cons

I have no real complaints, though there's room for improvement. Entirely unremarkable so far as corporations go, no real vision, constantly playing catch-up to other companies on the market, so there wasn't much of a sense of energy or motivation. No one at any level seemed really invested in the company. Constantly changing business plans. We didn't get through a whole year without all our goals changing, some new objective becoming the end-all be-all and the old end-all be-all never mentioned again. Pretty standard in the business world. Pay was consistently substandard, especially in regard to their contractors. Maybe 60-80% of market average. They've also been outsourcing recently, and laying people off as a result. Lost quite a few this year, more than a hundred. Take away is that one should be wary signing onto Bose as a long-term career.

Pros

-Good engineering development/learning opportunities with really bright people. -Very good work-life balance. -Generous employee discount program. -Freedom to work on a lot of different stuff that interests you, genuinely fun. -Culture, while overdone at times, creates real employee camaraderie.

Cons

-Poor/slow career development....low turnover and many lifers means you have to 'get in line'. -People at the top are part of the 'old guard' and don't truly understand their customers. -Average compensation. -Company has a distorted self-image and can be too clever for it's own good. -Employee outings/appreciation are usually nothing special and/or paid for by the employees. If all you want to do is tinker and build stuff, you'll like it here. If you're looking for career progression look elsewhere.
