Mediocre Employer

Pros

Paid intersessions off, tuition remission (for full-time employees), a lot of very interesting research.

Cons

Working for a grant-funded entity is stressful and job security is iffy. BU has a pretty slow hiring process. Professors/PIs divide their time between too many things and lack time to dedicate to staff needs. Lack of career advancement and skills development opportunities.

Pros

Work life balance is good. The benefits are pretty good as well. For the most part, students seem engaged though less interested in actual learning than in furthering job/career prospects.

Cons

Decisions are made at a glacial pace. Pay is not the best for higher ed jobs in the region.
