Pros

It was great getting free dining hall meals with a shift

Cons

Working as a student manager offers low pay and high stress. Full time managers overwork you and encourage you to prioritize work over studies. The amount of work and stress you trade in for the minimal pay increase is not at all worth it. And the so-called "professional and leadership skills" you can put on your resume don't help you in the work force at all. My advise is to turn down any offer to be promoted to student manager, and find an internship (that you can put on a resume) instead.

Pros

Development opportunities. Supportive environment for faculty in balancing teaching and research.

Cons

Tenure is a tough road. True everywhere. But need to be self directed to attain.
