Bad company culture, passive-aggressive colleagues

Pros

The pay is fair. There is no micromanagement.

Cons

The culture is not a fit for me (and most people who aren't robotic). Teams are cliquey and passive-aggressive. It is a culture where they expect you to know what to do without having been told what to do, and then get upset when you don't do what you were supposed to do, even though you didn't know you had to do it, or even how to do it. Communication always comes across as harsh, unfriendly, and impersonal. The people in tech roles have absolutely no people skills whatsoever. They are rude and condescending and refuse to explain things plainly (in non-tech terms). The health benefits keep getting worse every year as well, and they take exorbitant paycheck deductions compared to other jobs. The benefits team tries to gaslight employees into thinking they are making good decisions for their employees' health, but it is really a guise to "save money" since they are now owned by Thoma Bravo. There is also very little diversity to this company.

Pros

None to think of, except a few kind and hard working individuals on the various teams that actually deserve their paycheck.

Cons

-10 stars!! The management here is clueless and very rude/mean. They are too busy to answer questions, emails and instant messages. This company needs a complete overhaul. The managers have a "been there done that" type of philosophy, which is very dehumanizing and disheartening. They are no where around to assist and make up excuse after excuse after excuse to save themselves! They have threatened, pigeon holed people and have no substance behind what they are doing. They reward complete cheaters, which has been provden and nothing is done about it. There are people who don't do anything. They are paying these folks, which is the most unbelieveable! There is no assistance or communication from management because they are "too busy." They like to play favorites too to the "green" employees or the cheaters, who are minorities. It's a joke at Bottomline! Run, not walk away from this horrible company!

Pros

The people on the individual teams are great. Depending on what group you work in, and what discipline, you will get active involvement in your career or absolutely nothing. There is a lot of opportunities in some groups to collaborate across lines of business ("segments") which is unique in comparison to most of my corporate roles in the past. Prior to the sale to Thoma Bravo, this would have easily been a 5-star review and genuinely a company I could have seen myself staying for as long as they would have me.

Cons

Even before the sale, there were some cons (disconnect between disciplines, not prioritizing technical debt, etc). That said, I think there are cons at every company. However, after the Thoma Bravo sale things have just gone downhill constantly. From the beginning they spoke constantly about buying Bottomline "for the culture" and then proceeded to strip the entire culture away within a year. There used to be just small things that Bottomline would do (e.g. early-close at 2p ET on days before a holiday or holiday weekend) that all together made you really feel like Bottomline cared about it's employees. Charity matching every year, a wonderful program where they would provide scholarships to young people, etc. Now, I think for most US based roles they fear for their job regardless of their position.
