Pros

* Smart, helpful coworkers who genuinely want customers to succeed * Product/platform has real value and strong enterprise adoption * Good learning early on from complex customer work

Cons

* In my experience, consulting is heavily driven by utilization and “urgency,” which creates a constant firefighting environment. * Weekend work and after-hours escalations can become normal on certain engagements without a clear on-call/coverage model. * Projects frequently felt under-scoped or started before requirements were truly finalized, leading to rework, compressed timelines, and customer escalations. * Internal process/tooling changes increased admin overhead (forecasting/timesheet friction) without clearly improving delivery outcomes. * Compensation progression felt weak over time: my initial offer was competitive, but raises/refreshers did not keep pace with increased expectations or cost of living. * Hybrid/RTO enforcement and monitoring added stress, while day-to-day workload remained intense.

Pros

Decent pay, benefits, flexibility and PTO Everyone is great to work with CEO is great a sales pitch and getting folks excited, so if you're in Sales or CS it's likely great

Cons

No upward mobility No strategy, no execution - lots of "talks" about what to do, but no teams are working together or producing outcomes Everyone's an "owner" therefore no one is and everyone is working in silos Everyone at this company is constantly blocked from actually getting work done CEO is massive design blocker, difficult to work with when it comes to in-product work

Pros

Box has a good culture of collaboration among engineers. I've worked with some great people here.

Cons

Box has made a strategic pivot towards AI, which includes all but mandating AI usage among engineers. I'm not going to tell other people what makes their work productive, but I would like the same courtesy extended to me and this year has been full of AI propagandization all the way down the leadership chain. Box tracks AI utilization metrics and will criticize engineers who want to write code on their own. Box also has an engineer-first culture embraced to its detriment. Middle management seems to think the proper solution for any management problem is to have engineering take on more responsibility rather than providing leadership and direction to enable engineers to do their best work. Recently in a meeting discussing a companywide survey, management was rated lowest and so this was the primary topic. Most of the action items were for engineers to work around the poor management rather than for management to improve themselves.
