Pros

Competitive pay if you negotiate well, 3 weeks of vacation base, lots of responsibility and good opportunity to learn a lot very quickly and take ownership of your projects, some genuinely good people at the company

Cons

Jobsite culture and company events are reminiscent of fraternity days in college and can be very unprofessional. Have not experienced the level of drama and back-stabbing present at this company since high school. Get on the wrong person's bad side and they'll do everything they can to find a reason to get you fired without giving you a chance to voice "your side of the story" or your opinion. The company is very lacking in terms of diversity. If you don't hunt or fish regularly, don't expect to feel welcome. Racism and misogyny were experienced on several occasions - not regularly but this is not something that should be tolerated on any level in any environment, much less a professional environment. Jobsite safety is lacking and superintendents responsible for enforcing safety policy don't do anything about it because "it is the way it has always been done" or "they're just painters/flooring installers/etc." If you aren't putting in 60+ hour weeks you are made to feel like you aren't carrying your weight. Company staffs projects with a "run thin" mentality which inevitably leads to burnout. I genuinely think my manager tried to avoid this becoming an issue, but we were left with minimal support on a project which the company executives who made staffing decisions did not understand the scope/scale of issues present. If you are looking to work for a professional company with decent work/life balance, don't waste your time with Brinkmann.

Pros

I've worked for a few companies in the industry and this is by far the best company I have ever worked for! This past year has been especially hard due to the pandemic as well as having management turnover within our department, however we can proudly say we are stronger than ever and we have risen to the challenge! A few of the individuals that left came with quite a shock, however, change can be a good thing and we are working towards more innovative, efficient and improved practices, which we have desperately needed. This company and this department really shows how much they care and how valued their dedicated employees are. We are a team and what sets us apart from other accounting departments, is the level of commitment we have to those around us - our work family. We have had a few throughout the years that have proven themselves to be non-team players and who lack the drive to show up each day with passion, but they have since moved on and this department is headed in the same direction as the company - towards greatness. Some are not cut out for the hard work and tenacity that is required for a swift, evolving work environment and some also do not like change no matter what. That is not a reflection of the company or department, but instead a reflection of the individual unwilling to work towards a common goal. We will never let that stop us from moving forward. Despite the amount of effort that goes into appreciating employees, encouraging a fun and happy environment, there will always be those that complain and say it is not enough. This company does a really great job of giving back and finds a way to celebrate as often as possible. I recognize how hard management works and how much goes into making things happen each day. In all that management has to juggle, knowing that my personal and professional path is important, makes me feel like everything I do matters. I plan to work here for the rest of my career and I will continue to put my heart and soul into a company that sees me, values me and appreciates my dedication. I'm proud to be part of a group of people who challenge each other to rise above and achieve great things together! A bonus to working in a construction company, is the tangible outcome of the product we all work to build. It is an awesome feeling to be a piece of what completes these amazing structures and buildings. I'm proud to be part of something greater than me and Brinkmann helps me achieve that.

Cons

Working hard is a requirement. You will never leave a day having completed your to do list. Not every answer you receive will be what you want to hear. It is important to show up for the greater good and work towards what is best for the company, not just for yourself. We have some growing pains but with that means, steady influx of work. There is never a dull moment and no two days are the same. This all can be viewed as a positive with the right perspective, but for those that do not wish to work hard for their paycheck, know that this is not the right place for you.
