Pros
- The benefits are pretty good (except the 401k match.) - Good work-life balance. - Nice office. - Stability that comes with a large company. (not worried about layoffs.) - Many/most of the engineers are bright and really know what they are doing. - Very friendly coworkers. - Some first level managers are very good at their jobs.
Cons
- It's a software company that's run by a sales guy. The only thing that's ever talked about is sales. Any idea of technical excellence is a thing of the past. - There is no more leadership. Nobody seems to know what's going on, or what the big picture is. Engineering teams are left to "figure it out" themselves. - Product management is completely lost. They have no vision for the product as a whole. Most PMs are siloed and don't talk to each other. (with a couple of exceptions) - Oracle's bureaucracy is creeping in, and making it harder to get things done. (Need to buy some software? That will take 6 months!) - There is a shortage of employees, but an abundance of work to do. - Hiring freeze in the main office. All new employees are overseas (The Prague office is trying to hire, but it's very slow going) - Don't ever expect a promotion or a raise. Salaries have been stagnant for the past 3-4 years. - Way too much dead weight. Plenty of people who've been there for 6-8 years are given a free pass to not be productive. It's not a secret to anyone. Yet they are still there, and dragging down teams productivity. - Too many people in charge that have no idea what they are doing. Many of the "leaders" are there simply because they've been with the company since the beginning. Not because they are qualified for the position. As a result, nothing is getting done, there's confusion and chaos everywhere. - No investment in the code base. It's old and fragile. Technical debt piled on top of technical debt. The pile keeps getting deeper. Anytime someone wants to make a dent, they get slapped down and "talked to". I think you get the idea.
