Pros

BronxWorks is an agency that is deeply invested in the Bronx and have various services to address the needs of the community. This is a great agency for entry level staff looking to expand their skills in social services. It provides opportunity for growth and the salary is in line with other non-profit organizations. The agency has good training for new staff and offers a generous package regarding sick, vacation and holiday pay.

Cons

The agency needs to do more to promote unity, morale and collaboration. The agency need to focus more on staff retention. The agency also should offer some sort of tuition reimbursement and opportunities for professional development. The dental benefits are horrible.

Pros

Great coworkers Lots of sick and vacation time

Cons

I have been working at bronxworks for over two years and have helped build up the Health home program from the bottom up. Me and one other care manager have been here for the longest and work with three other CMs that are new. Even though me and the other CM have been there about 3 years and have piloted many assessments, taken on more work and assist in training new employees we’ve had absolutely 0 raises since we’ve been here. We get paid the same exact amount as the new workers. In this program there is absolutely 0 amount of opportunity for growth. An extremely high caseload (I’ve had up to 60) and you are press ed to complete a multitude of assessments every month. We are even now given clients who are street homeless and are required to go out searching for them in the street because god forbid you can’t bill for a client one month. We are also forced to bring our supervisor out on home visits every month so that she could basically get her social work hours. Lastly, all of this is put in a monthly report that the supervisor mandates you to sign so that she could put it in your file (I’m assuming so they could have ammunition to fire you when they so choose). Higher staff is completely disconnected from the case managers.
