Pros

These days because of my history, I cannot give any good reasons to work at Brookshires.

Cons

In the beginning, say the first 10 years of my career it was great and rewarding but because of internal changes affecting the retail operations, it is not a good place to work. People are advanced based upon likes and dislikes and not quality or past excellent work. You must be approved by lesser experienced people picked by the new regime in charge and so you are forgotten if you were loyal to that regime. Mr. rayford has NO retail experience and was chosen for his friendly nature with the new regime and only for that reason. he was a warehouseman not a retail experienced man and neither is the present man who is running Brookshires, Trent Brookshires.

Pros

The hours are actually pretty good. You really don't have to worry about if you are not going to get enough or too much since the opening and closing shifts are set. My coworkers are pleasant, even though some are lazy. We honestly try to make the best out of most situations even though we have two pharmacists who like to micromanage and a demanding customer base. We try to help each other out in any way so we can complete the tasks at hand. I am not saying the work environment is great (it really depends who you have at the helm on the given day), but it is certainly not too dismal to the point of just working in a suicidal silence.

Cons

The Pharmacy (and very likely the Grocery Department as well) jobs are low-paying. The store I work at loses so many people that in the one year I have been there, I have worked with 7 different people. The high stress due the fact that the pharmacy I work in is rarely fully staffed makes matters worse and has been the kicker for the majority of the people who have left. Although anecdotal, Brookshire's seems to be the lowest paying of all the chain pharmacies within my location. The area I work in has very demanding customers. Their demands are usually non-sensical and when trying to express to them the fault in their perception they get angry and call upper management just so they can hear the same thing but from another person's mouth (who apparently has some magical power to make people understand after they repeat what I had just said to the customer). When you have a drug-addict infested town such as the one I work in, the customers really just wear you out. Honestly, pharmacy is a job very hard to like when you have all of these negatives. The company also offers very little support when facing dilemmas regarding customers. Recently they stopped offering any benefits or raises every 6 months to until the employee has reached a year of working. Very little advancement, in general, is available within the company. The company has also become notorious for making long time employees resign from a position since they have reached a certain amount of benefits that cost the company "too much" to have them on board (meanwhile the company has been buying out other stores and developing their Pharmacy services). The company itself is pretty corrupt and makes me dislike it even more.
