You're a dime a dozen at Burger King

Pros

The work is easy, you generally work with high school kids so it's a laid-back, fun environment. You get away with doing below-average work or calling in sick often because employees are interchangeable.

Cons

There are tons of employees and tons applying all the time. Basically anyone that walks in the door can do the job you're doing and will be hired if they apply. They don't notice if you're doing an awesome job or a poor job. You only get 50% off food WHILE YOU'RE WORKING (or 30 min before or after a shift) and NO ADDITIONAL DISCOUNT when you're off the clock (completely unacceptable for a restaurant, especially such a crappy, cheap one). They're very cheap and do everything possible to cut costs, including, at my Burger King, throwing away free employee meals (given as reward coupons when drive-thru time was under 2 minutes) if employees forget they've won one or accidentally leave it on the board long enough for the owner to notice.

Pros

In management you are givin direction but not micromanaged. Your success depends on how much you put into your restaurant how well you train, manage P&L and delegate.

Cons

In this area you have people that like to call of from work or show up to work not prepared to work a full day. The way to handle that is by setting your standards and not wavering from them. When you work for a franchise as the Burger Kings are in this area you may have to look elsewhere for upward movement past General Manager which may include obtaining a degree.

Pros

Burger King offered great exposure to the corporate environment of the fast food industry and provided excellent networking options for me.

Cons

The downside for me was that you are representing a large company whose sole purpose is selling greasy meat to Americans.
