Pros

The job is quite easy and the kids are generally very well behaved. You also have access to a pretty good array of resources to work with. The schedule is pretty flexible overall. Ultimately, it's decent experience in a not-too-demanding position.

Cons

The biggest con is the lack of consistency in hours. It's very clear that this job is geared toward part-time. You will have a difficult time making even 30 hours a week. The second biggest downside is the lack of supervision. The center director is a salesperson first and foremost, any managerial duties come second. You might not even see the director for months at a time since they are in meetings with parents all day. While the freedom is nice, it also means no feedback. You will have no idea if you're doing something wrong or otherwise should take a different approach to certain students. In a similar way, its quite an antisocial job. Teachers have at most maybe 5 minutes to talk with each other between sessions.

Pros

401k match if you're stuck here for at least 6 months. You could also get sick hours approved if you have a reasonable manager.

Cons

No career growth. No raise. The 3 students to 1 teacher ratio is outrageous, and you can easily get overwhelmed if you have all 3 students who need lots of help. The average turnover rate of any tutors here is about 6 months, and even worse for the front desk staff. My first manager cut my hours from 37 to 4 hours per week, and he put all the blame on me. Before all this happened, he asked me to eat hours and I refused, so I got retaliated. He was horrible towards my hours, but at least he gave me back my hours afterwards. The second manager was even worse. He's inept in getting the students to renew or sign up for contracts (which is probably good for the families). What used to be a 30+ hours workday over the summer, has now become nothing for me. All the hours are assigned to fewer than 5 tutors. He even questioned my ability to teach Algebra 2, which is laughable given that I have several students who took Calc AB last year requested me on a constant basis. He also hosted a teacher meeting on a Saturday evening after hours, which was totally inconsiderate, let alone the hourly rate for meetings is the minimum wage, not the teaching rate!
