Pros

This is my first teaching job. But during training and my first few months teaching, all I could think was, "I wish my learning experience in high school was like this." I really believe C2 has world class teaching systems and training for its tutors. I like that my hours are flexible and the pay is good for what it is. My manager is a little micro-managing, and I wish we had some health benefits. Other than that, it's been a lot of fun so far.

Cons

No health insurance offered to part-time employees.

Pros

This job provided more stability than many other tutoring positions I've had in the past. After a while, I was able to get 30-40 hours per week on a consistent basis.

Cons

Tutoring is done 3:1, with a random mix of students. Tutors are supposed to multi-task among the three students, which means that students actually only get 1/3rd of the tutoring they would get at another company. My manager was also micro-managed the choice of curriculum, even though she has no teaching experience. Her advice was sometimes horribly wrong for the student, but I had to follow it because she didn't actually take the time to listen when I advocated for the student. And then I would get in trouble when the students didn't improve their test scores... All in all, it has been a very frustrating experience. There was also a significant amount of unpaid work. We were expected to be at work at least 30 minutes before classes started, but most of us arrived an hour or more beforehand just so that we could plan lessons and make photocopies. None of this was paid time. Finally, there was an incredible amount of turnover (despite claims on their website that boast that C2 has far higher teacher longevity than their competition). Within an 8 month period, every single English teacher left and was replaced. Some of the replacements left too. The most veteran math tutor had only been there for a year and a half.

Pros

Some of the students appreciate the help

Cons

No advancement, sales focused leaders who do not care about their employees or their students, schedule changes constantly, most people in the company are two faced and will lie into your face to make you do what they want you to do, no benefits, freelance tutors make much more, terrible work/life balance since you work in the afternoons/ at night
