Pros

Paradigm offers a competitive salary and a flexible work environment. The employees are friendly and there is camaraderie between the employees. Paradigm is successful in business development efforts and has won many industry awards.

Cons

The health benefits are expensive compared to other beltway IT services companies. Premiums increased anywhere from 10% to 20% in a given year. Ther eis too much management focus on operations and not enough on other business functions.

Pros

This company opens the door for the younger generations to get their foot in the door at a government facility.

Cons

Depending on which contract you work under, promotional opportunities can be non-existent. I work in a Help Desk environment where all the Tier 1 reps are contractors (CACI) and all the Tier 2 reps are Federal employees. It's almost impossible to get picked up by the federal government to move into a Tier 2 position, which leaves very little room for CACI to promote from within. My contract manager also has no say/control over other CACI contracts, so internally transferring to another job with CACI won't happen unless I apply like any Joe Schmoe on the street. The benefit package is not that bad, but the pay is horrible in comparison to similar jobs. If I were a federal employee, I would be making 2-3 times as much as I make now to do this job. Also, working for a government Help Desk has a lot more responsibilities than your typical Help Desk position out in the 'real world'. I am not a ticket-documenting receptionist with little-to-no troubleshooting experience. In the scheme of things, I am more of a Tier 2/Tier 3 support person, and my job duties are equivalent to that of a LAN Admin, except that I work on the phones remotely. I am fully capable of being a LAN Admin, but since I work a "Help Desk" job, I am permanently labeled as that, and only that, making it extremely difficult to move up the IT chain outside of this company. When CACI won the contract for this Help Desk, they severly underbid the other contracting company that held the contract prior to this, and in the process, completely screwed the employees out of the pay they deserved. People that were making $50K+ were told to take a pay cut or find another job. And this set the bar for the rest of us who were hired later on. This is also mainly why CACI has been hiring younger people on this contract - seasoned IT professionals laugh at their offer letters... this company's morals are non-existent when it comes to money.

Pros

CACI is a large company with a wide range of offerings and services. The work you perform is based on the team or division you join, so there can be an opportunity to work on multiple projects and clients over a multi-year career with the company. The initial pay is market value and your friends can earn referral bonuses for hiring you. The company is trying to get better with its internal systems but is growing way too fast at the moment. You can see attempts to move the giant monolith in a new direction but there are far too many issues and cultural problems for this to work any time in the near future.

Cons

There is limited opportunity for advancement due to company structure and internal politics. The company is very stovepiped with every division operating as its own entity and attempts to join another division are seen as territorial back-stabbing. The pay is fair market coming in the door, but yearly increases are only 3-5%, with 5% being the norm for superior work. Management pushes for employees to be certified and trained, however do not put money behind this training and expect that employees pay for and pursue training themselves on their own time. Even after certifications are attained, the reward or "return on investment" is zero as pay is not adjusted to match new market value. New hires frequently come into the company making significantly more than veterans even at the same pay band due to the poor yearly increases. CACI is known internally as Cheap A-- Company Incorporated due to the pinching and tightening at every corner. Every month there's a new reason as to why an expense cannot be approved. Employees are expected to travel long distances and overnight trips to support clients with zero money reimbursed for travel expenses. Promotion and recognition is solely based on internal politics and monetary games rather than individual merit.
