Pros

I had a great group of people to manage, and the bulk of the photographers hired are talented.

Cons

- Long, inconsistent hours if you are not salaried - Any weather, you're out there shooting. - Pay was not fair for the amount of work being done - Business model is SO unfair and as a photographer or manager you have to deal with the complaints - The company profits off of photographers' work without the photographer being compensated for said work. The people who "sell" the photo packages end up getting a bonus, but the photographer gets nothing except the hourly rate they are paid.

Leadership tries, but it's not good enough

Pros

Company constantly growing, good opportunities for internal hiring. Depending on the department, the roles are best as stepping stones in your career. Lots of entry-level work available during late summer through the winter. There are company leaders making a real effort, but progress seems difficult to attain. Lots of good people there who care about the work they do. Boundaries regarding personal time off have always been respected in my experience. Business-casual, colorful office, decent location.

Cons

Company struggles to keep up with its growth staffing wise. Growing pains are constant, and communication and training across departments is poor. School expectations are difficult to navigate, and event execution is inconsistent. Pay is not competitive, especially for hourly employees in Studios, Customer Service, School Experience, and Production, who should not expect to make ends meet without additional income. As of the end of 2024, the only raises hourly employees could expect were 50 cent raise per hour, especially since no standard or formal employee reviews exist. Employee surveys regarding employer satisfaction and exit surveys do not exist either, which is probably why many former employees resort to leaving Glassdoor reviews. Company wants to celebrate employees, but doesn't know how in a meaningful way. Some managers or directors manage morale well, some don't.

Pros

My coworkers were excellent, kind people. Choose your own workdays, excellent for maintaining a work/life balance. Commission pay for "Elite" photographers Diverse team; you get to meet lots of people with differing perspectives. A great way to meet talented photographers and videographers.

Cons

Early mornings and late nights. Pay is somewhat lacking, though not terrible (starts at $15/hr usually) Style guides and reviews are inconsistent, making it hard to tell what you're doing wrong or how to fix it. Senior management is, frankly, incompetent. Outwardly racist or sexist schools were completely ignored for several years. Seasonal, with basically no work from late April-early June. The photography itself? Boring. Bland. It's Shutterstock material. If you do something interesting or unique, sorry, it's not "CADY standard." Artists or creatives need not apply. The CEO doesn't even know how to handle a camera. If that's not telling, I don't know what is.
