Pros

CGI is one of the biggest technology consulting firms in the world. There's nearly limitless career possibilities, many different ladders to climb, skills to learn. Great for self-starters who want to forge their own path, explore their interests, and build a long career. Especially well suited to technologists with interests across the business spectrum (marketing, sales, operations, etc.). It's also heavily invested in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) and offers lots of opportunities for training and certifications, which is either a pro or a con depending on your appetite for agile frameworks. Same goes for cloud, it's a great place if you want to grow skills, get certified in AWS & Azure.

Cons

Not necessarily a cons, but a words of caution. CGI is not a software product company (at least for now, it would certainly love to change that). It is built around enterprise-scale IT projects, managed IT services, and IT strategy consulting. If you are a hardcore software engineer and are not interested in developing broader business consulting skills, you will likely find your career ladder to be short and feel undervalued. At CGI *everyone* is called to be a consultant. It's part of the culture and you aren't going to change that. You also won't see the kind of money being thrown at you like you would at a SaaS/PaaS/IaaS company. CGI values time in the trenches, so you won't start seeing big checks unless you stick around a few years, and start impacting revenue. Also CGI has some interesting policies around limited middle management which is both a pro and a con. There's only allowed to be like 4 or 5 people between anyone and the CEO, and there are rules about how many people management roles should manage, which severely limits the number of roles. Breaking into the Manager/Director level and above can be challenging, often requiring good internal connections and good timing.

Pros

Work From Home 100%. Encouraging Wellness and positive Well-Being. Benefits got better in 2022. Matching Stock Purchase Plan.

Cons

Significantly underpaid. Will be told that the pay is similar to industry competition, however in reality they are about 15-20% under. Because of a lack of compensation, the quality of the "best" or elite teams in the company are extremely subjective. You get what you pay for. For a company prides itself on diversity, there is a severe lack of representation from BIPOC as well as women at the upper levels of management. The demographics at the executive levels are about as pale, fossilized, and paternal as one would expect.

Pros

CGI is a very great company to work for at the start of your career or in the middle. Workplace culture is very friendly and open. They allow you to work from home however much you want. They have flex time So you can work up to 8 hours extra one week then get the same amount of hours off the next week. The medical benefits are pretty good. The vast majority of the health insurance premium is paid for And you are covered day one no worries about starting at beginning of a month and waiting a month for coverage. They have a social club that's throws parties. The holidays are floating holidays so you can use it just as vacation time.

Cons

The natural career transition from Junior dev to middle tier dev is difficult to happen at CGI (in 2022). If you are a junior dev have plans to refresh your resume and start job hunting after around two years here. Have coworker with 3 years more dev experience than me making only a few thousand more than me a jr dev. I guess the turnover of good coding coworkers is another con from this. If you are coming to CGI for a senior position It's also a good place. The 401k match is also lack luster. Used to be a 50% match on up to 3% now it's a 50% match on up to 5%. So it's gotten better but not much.
