Pros

Great place to get experience, looks good on resume

Cons

CNN is a good place to work if you don't inconvenience management by having a family and daring them to uphold their "family-friendly" policies. When I began job-sharing, I consistently received poor performance reviews, despite the quality of my work not changing. I eventually was let go because management couldn't make me quit. This was a much better, more innovative company under Ted Turner. Now it's just another big corporation that only cares about the stockholders.

Pros

CNN offers a tremendous amount of resources at the hands of every professional working within its walls. Each individual carries a strength to the production team that makes it one of the most intellectually stimulating environments. Senior colleagues have a breadth of expertise in fields that they have covered issues an entire career over. As junior staff they place an incredible amount of trust in your abilities that ultimately allow you to build on your portfolio. Each day offered new and exciting opportunities and that certainly beat working the traditional and predictable 9-6 M-F job where your work followed you each day of the week. You must be willing to "give it your all."

Cons

You must have the ability to balance your personal life. If building your career is a priority over maintaining your social and personal life then this is the perfect match. If your social life is of the utmost importance, then CNN along with the entire broadcast news industry certainly is not for you.

Lots of opportunity, lots of red tape

Pros

Huge company, lots of opportunity to grow. Really diverse team of incredibly talented people which makes learning and growing personally a daily routine.

Cons

Because they are so large, there's a lot of unnecessary red tape involved in any kind of change. Poor performance is difficult to give any repercussions for and stellar performance is difficult to reward. Status quo and longevity with the company are the only surefire ways to slowly make your way up the ladder.
