Pros

- Pay is high (mostly because you spend so much time at work) - Insurance is great

Cons

- As a conductor or engineer you’ll basically be on call all the time except for 10 hours after clocking out (though I’ve heard they do have scheduled off days now) - You’ll probably spend a lot of time out of town for work - Until you have lots of seniority (which can take decades) you will not work a regular schedule - If you have kids, you will miss lots of important moments - You’re told while you’re still in training that management will try to fire you (and they do) - Do not take the impact this career has on your life lightly

Pros

Overall Pay is just ok

Cons

Managers literally hide in bushes trying to catch you doing wrong All the locomotives have cameras (Big brother is watching) Safety is a joke. They preach it and then turn a blind eye and punish those who speak up They own you and you have to beg for off time On call 24/7 365
