Pros
Non , you are getting always negative Feedback ,from Yardmasters, you got to be the Diesel Doc as Traincrews call you always during your 12 hour shift and expect you to answer their technical questions , anything goes wrong like to long of fueling duration of a 100 series train , you get called by your Boss from Calgary , On top of all your Planning/dispatching Locomotives ,you are in charge of maintenance Shop craft employees to supervise them , so all in all very stressful . There is always a push for Locomotives from the Diesel shop, as you need those locomotives to substitute for a bad order locomotive on an incoming train , its an ongoing battle regarding locomotive availability.
In my time there was this remote yard train set up , called Mother -daughter radio controlled ,which burned down after an accident , the yardmasters will hold you responsible if there is anything wrong with it like dropping load , brake problems etc. Then there is the mandatory employee evaluation , witch is ongoing , you MUST produce at least on FAIL every week , that could be safety fails , like no hard Hat worn etc. If you don't complete this employee failure report your Boss from Calgary when he visits Moose Jaw , will remint you of you obligation as a Supervisor , you must have this one FAIL on one of your employees.. You as the Planner are always in the Hot seat , and we all know where Stress leads to ..Heart attack, high blood pressure etc. So if you want to be a Production Supervisor/ Planner in Moose Jaw by all means go ahead , you will find out what it is like .
Cons
The money is good, but there are other ways and Jobs where you dont end up , with a Heart attack.
