Interesting industry, immature/old leadership style and needs resource planning
Pros
The railway is a very interesting industry and its ties to the growth and establishment of cities across the world can’t helped but be appreciated. The technology and its challenges in keeping trains moving, keeping people safe and being able to provide analytics is exciting work.
Cons
Can only comment to the IT world of things. There is so much talent and passion that is part the department, yet all that strength and opportunity is not being used to its fullest. The balance and politics of delivering on time and on budget, versus quality and meeting user needs seems to be constantly in conflict. This is made worse by not being resources correctly to keep shareholders happy with the operating expense ratio. This results in the poor management of existing products and services while continuously introducing new features/products to users with technical debt and no opportunity to properly document basic system information.
