Pros

The basic job itself was fun except for the menial, unnecessary things management insisted needed to be done. CP is located near train station and bus stops.

Cons

Culture. Work life balance - there is none. CP is operating a 7 x 24 hour business with Monday through Friday 8 to 5 personel. Weekend and evening work is a given. Management is tyrannical, not necessarily at lower or mid level but higher up. Performance review is based on bell curve. I haven't heard of that since my school days. No discussion of your performance. Your performance is reviewed and it's value determined by upper management who you have met once or twice. If you believe middle management they don't have much input into it. CP offers bonus based on company and individual performance. That being said management is saying due to Canada's poor economy they doubt bonuses will be forthcoming next year. Churn and burn environment

Good Pay, Great Pension, outstanding health care, there is always something to learn

Cons

Absolute totalitarian dictatorship. You are not trained correctly and given all the tools to succeed. As soon as everyone working on a desk understands all the process's, management changes them and reinvents the wheel. If you are smart and outgoing, YOU WILL BE PUNISHED. There is more talk of disciplining employees by management than there is talk of anything else. Every manager acts like a high school bully, and are the worst role models I've ever come in contact with. You'll never know on a day to day basis of youre working 8 or 16 hours; even tho Union rules state you cannot be shoved to be forced. In the event you do make a mistake, EVERY manager there will make sure you know what you did wrong, however, if you ask too many questions, you will be disciplined. I worked in the trenches with some of the best co-workers you could ask for, and also the worst management team I've ever seen in my life.

Company History. Trains and the transportation industry are interesting. If you enjoy working 70 hours and getting paid for 40.

Cons

Horrible work culture, expected to work around the clock. Kiss your family life goodbye. The money sounds great, but their benifits are expensive and you'll work non-stop.
