      Great job aside from coworkers and Union

      Pros

      Great job with excellent pay and benefits. No experience or education and I make more than any of my friends that have a degree. Work outside and get to travel.

      Cons

      Paying over a hundred dollars a month for some guy who don't even work to make six figures a year to "run" the union. Oh, and they mail you your contract the company offers as well. The coworkers are the worst. I have been here for 6 years and people cry constantly. You have guys that abuse FMLA so a guy can never take his time off but will cry like hell the second they get ran around. My biggest disgust was the ingrate people that shouldn't even have the job boxing the whole craft into a corner and voting down an offer for $42.50 an hour, days off, and furlough protection just because they don't like management. Yet not a single nay sayer has the guts to step up and be management! I have never worked with such idiotic and ungrateful people.

      The retirement benefits are very good when compared to just Social Security

      Cons

      Work 12 hr shifts or longer and miss a lot of family times due to the fact that the railroad never shuts down

      Pros

      They pay and benefits, most of the union employees are good guys, but that's all.

      Cons

      The management doesn't know their left from right. They came up with this quota that managers HAVE to meet having to do with safety violations. For instance, if you are not wearing your earplugs when you should be, you will be written up. That's fine, but I have witnessed "rules" being made up when the managers are falling behind on this quota. They are Hunter Harrison's little puppies that will follow his every word and command. This is not the company you want to move up in since all the management jobs eventually get abolished and you are stuck without a job. They only will promote you if there is someone else to fill your job, there is a lot of favoritism going on within the company. The moral of the company have dropped so far since the new CEO has taken over, it used to be a great place to work, but now time drags on. They made a new "policy" that if you mention CP in a bad light via social media, it is cause for automatic termination. So you can't have an opinion anymore. Don't apply here, go to Union Pacific. You will be a lot happier (trust me)
