Pros

Sometimes the job can be really fun, at least if you're in one of the programs, because you get to attend events and even travel with the individuals. Plus, if you're looking for a job with meaning, this job has it. You really do make a difference in someone's life here, and it can be very rewarding to see the fruits of your labor as goals are achieved in the long-run. The dress code is pretty relaxed, too, as in, you can wear jeans to work if you're in the field. Overall, it's a great job for the right person. There are many, many people at this company that are very passionate about their jobs and about the mission of the agency, and that's great to see, especially when this includes the executives in corporate.

Cons

Depending on the level of care you're providing, you might have to clean up poop or drool, deal with challenging behaviors, etc. Sometimes working overnight without notice when someone calls out, not always predictable. A lot of work with low pay and no scheduled breaks (the pay is comparable to or better than like positions with other companies, though, and low pay comes with this field), It can be hard to move up. You'll be passed over because you don't have the right experience and then be ignored by your supervisor/program manager/clinical director when you ask for help with acquiring the necessary. At the same time, they really do believe in promoting from within, so for the right person, there might be a great opportunity. They're very tight on budgets--but that comes with working for a non-profit.
