Pros

The students are wonderful! A lot of time off per year gives balance to EXTREME working hours and conditions during the semester. Everyone that I'm immediately in contact with -- working with is wonderful -- great people.

Cons

Upper executive management compensation is excessive while adjunct faculty salaries are far from competitive. A math tutor earning $20 per hour is better compensated (on an hourly basis) than what I'm paid to teach engineering courses (considering all of the hours outside of the classroom necessary to do a good job).

Pros

The health benefits are amazing. I don’t think I’ll ever have health benefits like that again. I’ll miss it. They take Union members seriously. I’ve seen people get in trouble for multiple things and are still employed because of the protection they have.

Cons

They know how great their benefits are so the salary is low. Being a union member is great but if something comes up like fighting for pay reimbursement, which I was a part of, takes a very long time and you’ll never get what you’re actually owed. In most departments management changes constantly. In Admissions numbers are everything and if upper management doesn’t get the numbers they need, they’ll let go of that manager. This makes for stressed out managers who take that stress out on the employees.
