Pros

There are opportunities to develop professionally and collaborate with other departments and divisions on campus. Student affairs does a good job balancing the need to provide support to academic affairs and providing support to students.

Cons

Salary is on the low end, salary increases are far and few between, state allocation of funding per full time employee is poor, limited resources per usual in public education

Pros

The international student administrators, staff and faculty have wonderful attitudes and are very eager and willing to collaborate with new teachers. The students come from a range of different countries; in the past the majority of students came from China, but now the majority are from the Middle East.

Cons

You only get paid for in class hours but are required to work office hours and after calculating all the lesson planning and office hours, I make less than minimum wage. The office places you in different classrooms routinely so that you can get a feel for teaching different subject, but that makes it more time consuming because you have so much more research and preparation to do for new classroom every session.
