Pros

--lots of opportunity to learn new skills --lots of work for those willing to work - if you want to achieve, you will get support --great people to work with - great team! --yearly bonus --flexibility in work schedule and ability to telecommute

Cons

--Politics (same problem with any big company) --reward/recognition is sometimes ignored (not even a pat on the back) --hard-workers are rewarded with more work

Pros

Extreme amount of freedom and the ability to manage your own time and work. Management is laid back, but will assist you if you need advice. You get a raise every year plus 10% of your annual salary in bonuses there is no maximum top out . You are assigned an unmarked take home vehicle equipped with a police package and company gas card that you drive until you retire or quit. The Railroad industry is investing heavily in green technology and has been around for over 200yrs so job security is solid. Retirement benefits are great with Railroad retirement, Company pension and medical.

Cons

The only con.....we get paid once a month. It takes some getting used to and a little money managing skills, but you will get use to it after a while. If you don't like to drive ...don't apply. They give you a vehicle and they expect you to use it a lot. Driving is essential in this job so you have to have a good driving record. If you wreck your assigned vehicle in an at fault accident it will be a career suicide and they will take it out of your annual bonus.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Nice pension. The railroad is now a stable industry for the first time in decades. Also, lots of improvement to the track structure this year - better late than never!

Cons

It takes years to acquire enough seniority to hold a regular job. But worst of all, labor-management relations are awful. CSXT was certainly too lenient in previous generations, but it is now overly strict, to the point of sheer lunacy. Managers are required to find fault and put employees into formal investigations over the smallest things, or they can forget about being promoted. I can't imagine how much money is lost because management is sucking the initiative out of good workers. The management training program turns bright young men into scared, arrogant fools. Lastly, positions are cut and rationalized before the technology to do so is perfected, often resulting in collisions, damage and injuries.
