      Very good pay, and benefits Low education requirements Substantial upward mobility

      Cons

      Management can ruin your career over the slightest issue if they don't like you Dangerous work 8-12 hr shifts, no more no less Until you get seniority, you basically have no consistent working schedule, and are always on call. Hard to make plans

      Pros

      Good pay,benefits, and retirement. You learn something new everyday. Work around good people. Family environment while at work. Fun to operate equipment.

      Cons

      On call 24/7. No set schedule or off days. No holiday pay for working holidays. Company is open and runs trains all holidays. Gone from family majority of time

      Pros

      Not a lot fairly decent pay.

      Cons

      Management has a very strong us versus them mentality towards labor. They will try to fire you for any and everything. Constant cuts and layoffs are the norm so don't expect any real job security. Every new contract is worse than the last, meaning that health insurance costs and copays rise with every contract, while wages remain stagnant.
