      Cons

      Leadership is a neanderthal approach. You are expected to be unethical to achieve "the numbers" if that's what it takes. Be prepared to be thrown under the bus early and often. Little known secret: You manager does not have to allow you the benefits promised from HR during orientation. You cannot move within the company without your manager "releasing" you - regardless of what HR desires. Long hours, low-ball pay and they DO NOT CARE about your family life and will tell you this to your face. Avoid Avoid Avoid.

      Pros

      The benefits are great and the working environment is wonderful. You get a chance to travel a lot and meet a lot of different people.

      Cons

      They expect you to work 24/7 unless you are a VP. They give opportunities for advancement based on skin color and not talent, education or work experience. They constantly put the wrong people in the wrong places.

      CSX is a big bureaucracy but the company culture is friendly and employees generally want to do the right thing.

      Pros

      The work and the goals are always challenging. You are part of a prestigious company that is always trying to improve. The mission - to help industrial America move its freight by rail - is important and an integral part of the US economy. Great benefits with a pension and an entirely separate, well-funded, retirement system.

      Cons

      Big bureaucracy - often hard to get things done. Union-influenced culture (but not as much as it used to be). Some employees are comfortable with mediocrity. Silo mentality in the different departments.
