A necessary evil job that I'm elated I moved on from

Pros

- Some of the best medical benefits in the industry (you'll need it) - Extremely fast-pased, on-your-toes environment. Learning opportunities galore IF everything is working the way it should be (it doesn't) -Generous vacation time

Cons

- Salary WAY below national average - One point of contact for a HUGE warehouse operation - Customer has been rated as the worst company in America...and their grubby, slimy handprints are ALL over the operation. - A "Yes-man" mentality to the customers, where numerous demands for more work to be done on product during operations WHILE the company agrees to a reduced cost-per-unit. - Salary reviews are once a year and come in the form of a 2% increase. 3% if you are "exceptional". - Promotions for technical staff is non-existent if you're looking to move up in a technical role (unless you're lucky to live in the Philadelphia, PA area) that DOESN'T involve production management. It took me being proactive to negotiate for a promotion and resulted in a still-below-average wage increase. - Yearly reductions in 401k profit sharing bonuses. Since the inception of the STB business, the company grew at an explosive rate. This meant profit sharing for employees tanked form 6% to 3% of your PREVIOUS year's salary. So if you were making $50,000 last year and make $51,000 this year, your 401k match would maybe be $1,500. Oh, and for the rest of the year, the company matches 10% of your weekly 401k contribution, with a 5% max. - Extremely aggressive branch and corporate management. To the point where if you're the only point of contact to ensure continued operations, you better be available 24/7/365. If you're not, you will hear it in an angry phone call or e-mail all the way up to the Parsons. It got so bad that it adversely affected my quality of life. - MIPS are a joke. There is not one STB branch that has consistently hit their goals. - HR is a joke. I have requested paperwork following my voluntary termination of employment and I have yet to get any response following numerous phone calls and e-mails.

Pros

Good people. Interesting engineering and logistics company. Great benefits. Decent pay for management. Future growth has upside.

Cons

The company restructures all of the time when the financials are not where they need to be. I was with the company for 6+ years and then one day out of nowhere an HR rep shows up on site and tells me my title/position has been eliminated due to company restructuring... As committed and loyal as I was to CTDI for those 6+ years I never would have thought they would do something like this to me. One minute you are praised for your hard work and the next minute they let you go without notice or an exit interview.
