Pros

I met many wonderful people during my 20+ years at CVS -- nearly all of my coworkers and immediate supervisors were good people who were great to work with. Pay and PTO seem to be at or above average.

Cons

I worked at a store, a retail call center, and with Caremark plans. Each facet of the company has extremely high expectations from upper management individuals who are completely out of touch with what actually happens in the location every day. -Store pharmacy employees (technicians and pharmacists) almost never get to take a 15 minute break. Lunch and bathroom breaks are also very difficult to make time for due to excessively tight budgeting of hours. -Call Center employees are allowed so little "personal time" off the phone that using the bathroom more than once a day (outside of breaks) requires a note from your doctor explaining your "medical condition". -Employees creating and testing Caremark plans are asked to "volunteer" to be on call several weekends a month. You only get paid if you are actually needed, but cannot be more than 1 hour from ready to work for the entire day/weekend. This means you activities are severely restricted, but you may not get paid at all for this time. If nobody volunteers, then the manager is forced to pick someone to do it. -The insurance that is offered to employees is expensive and terrible. -It is very difficult to get another job within the company unless you know somebody currently working in the department you are applying to. Work history and experience do not carry nearly as much weight as a recommendation from a friend. I saw (many, many times) inexperienced people chosen for positions over highly qualified people.

Pros

Schedule flexibility & low acuity patients (which will change soon with the addition of chronic care services)

Cons

Pay! Pay! Pay! You have about 8 jobs- medical assistant, marketing, NP/PA, insurance billing & coding, clinic manager, customer service rep, janitor, etc etc. You're paid half the salary of one. The company continually pushes an increasing number of primary care services (while still pushing urgent care services as well), but aren't pushing increased salaries. The workload has become unbearable while being paid peanuts.

Pros

Working for CVS looks fantastic on a resume and I did get to work from home

Cons

The management was awful and it made it very hard to stay positive and motivated there. They promise room for advancement (like every company), but don't allow you to move around the company. Once you're in the benefit verification department, it's very hard to get out.
