Pros

Short term job to gain experience. CVS training is well respected in retail world. Will also give first hand experience with dealing with people in general.

Cons

Lack of opportunities to advance, you will treated as a paid slave if you do have chance to advance. It is retail be prepared to work long hours, little pay and holidays you will work them too it's retail. As for Work/Life Balance expect to not have weekends off and to work odd hours. I've seen many familes break apart due to the work condintions we are under.

Pros

Pay and bonuses are equal to most other companies. The benefits package is high quality. In some areas they value work/life balance but this is not true in all areas of the company.

Cons

Some of the downsides to working for CVS Caremark are growth opportunities. Corporately in some ways they are still a small Woonsocket company. Their tuition reimbursement is next to nothing and they do not spend a lot of time trying to grow their own employees skill sets. Corporately, it is a very political environment and promotions are often given out based more on who you get the opportunity to interface with rather than the work that you do.

Pros

Employees with a long work history are paid well in the IT shop.

Cons

Heavy use of offshore resources, severe lack of adequate system documentation, and an archaic development process can make it difficult to get a good grasp on the system. The CVS Enterprise Methodology used to work internal projects adds a ton of overhead and wasted time performing remedial tasks. Appropriate tools and automation to assist all IT groups is either severely lacking or non-existent. The system lacks any real architecture and is instead a bloody mess of hack jobs. Without the amazing work of the QA testing staff this system wouldn't still be running.
