Pros

Large company with a lot of stability. A lot of different departments and easy transfer interdepartmentally. Very organized in terms of work, etc. People are very nice and easy-going and are easy to work with (for the most part). Generous vacation days are granted, and people are open to flex work schedules, working from home, etc. Training is available for most large departments, and the orientaion is very detailed and helpful. Fridays are casual days, as well as other times of year (Employee Appreciation Week in October and week between Christmas and New Years is too). All the benefits from working at a large firm are there.

Cons

Bureacracy. There are rules and they are always used to avoid having to do the right thing. If there is not enough work, you have to stay at least 8 hours a day. If there's too much work, you have to stay nights and weekend. People below a director or VP level can only get promoted once every two years, no matter how hard they work or how much they've accomplished, and each promotion can only bring a 6% bump in salary. There is virtually no feedback, and even the supposedly mandatory annual review is often missed by various managers.

Pros

Depending on the store it can be a great learning experience. Definitley a good job for people newly entering the workforce. Since CVs sells a very diverse amount of products you'll learn how to handle everything from perfume to printer ink and stamps! Shifts can be as simple as 4 hours. Great job to put on a resume for those seeking customer service expierience. THrough stocking shelves you can familiarize yourse,f with all the latest products in medicine and bauty which is great if you plan on going to another store for employment like walgreens or Rite-Aid. Its really a good jack-of-all-trades type of store. A perfect stepping stone.

Cons

THe biggest downside is the inconsistency of staff among stores. One store may be overstaffed and another oculd be understaffed. And your success is really dependent on how well you get along with your fellow employees and the chemistry of the store. Another downside to working there is that there are many highschool age kids there. For many it is their first job so they don't often take initiative and don't care to educate themselves on the workings of the store so be prepared to work harder on shifts with kids. The wage too is a problem for those looking to make a living from working there. Deoending on the area the starting wage is very poor and hours can be hard to come by. It can be difficult to become a full time employee if you are not a manager. You can certainly get paid more at other similar stores. And because it is a Pharmacy be prepared to deal with many cranky seniors and sick people!

Pros

The best reason to work for CVS is the ease of the job. I am a college student majoring in business and my position is a shift supervisor. CVS has given me some good experience in managing others and a taste of retail, which just isn't for me. Obviously I'm only doing this job until I graduate and would be a bit overqualified after. Upper level management actually tries to make so good initiatives, it just depends if your store manager will take them seriously or not (mine did not). Overall, if you don't have a college degree, being a shift supervisor and working your way up to store manager within a few years isn't all that hard if you are good.

Cons

The downside of CVS is that it is very much the same stuff every day. I have worked there for 5 years and it just becomes monotonous. If you get a high volume store you will probably remain a lot more entertained than if you end up getting stuck at a low volume store. You will also be dealing with a lot of "bargain shoppers," so if you aren't a very people friendly person, the job is not for you. The store managers don't really have a high education level and so many of them don't fully appreciate the programs that CVS corporate try to implement.
