Pros

Nice co-workers and manager. Pretty calm job, I just have a problem with corporate.

Cons

Corporate doesn’t care about its workers, if you have mental illness or physical problems don’t work here. They don’t have sympathy for you even though they claim they do.

Pros

Can set own hours and my co workers were amazing. Also really liked the people I was working with as well as the insureds

Cons

Everything else....especially management. Management creates a very hostile work environment. The harrass everyone on a daily basis about meeting work plans that have no rightful place in a department like this. It's all about the numbers. They don't care about their employees. They feel you work better w the threat of your job hanging over your head. The management is not only not qualified but they lack compassion for both their employees and the insured. You are expected to work long hours to make your "workplan". Some people work 12-14 hours just to avoid being fired! And if it doesn't get done by 1:00 Friday....forget your weekend. I was told that although they couldn't tell me I couldn't go away for the weekend...if I did I would be written up on Monday. They take full advantage of it being a salaried position. Everyone makes the same amount of money because they were paying too much OT. now everyone is salaried per government guidelines. However when you break down what once seemed like decent money, you discover you have been deceived. I would have made much more on an hourly basis with overtime...even at $10 less an hour! They feel they own you. Turn over is very high as well. At 4 months we were considered to have tenure. Really? Based on high turnover they are forced to promote people who are barely out of their so called training.

Pros

A good place to start as an NP, although the orientation is grossly inadequate. Huge autonomy - you work alone. Clinical judgement is rarely questioned, especially diagnostic reasoning. Interesting, depending on your location (lower SES = crazier stuff walks in the door). Set hours, no work to take home - you chart in real time while the patient is in the office. Can be fun to work with the store staff.

Cons

You work alone - there's no one to consult down the hall. Incredibly poor physician collaboration. It's considered a "group practice" so other NPs will see your patients, and they may be significantly less skilled clinicians. Volume expectations are 2 patients per hour, but this is difficult if you're in a clinic with complicated patients, insurance issues, language barriers, and no PCP. Can be hard to get answers about questions - send an email or leave a message, and it's about 50/50 someone will answer.
