Pros

I used to love working for Minute Clinic. However, these days I can only be grateful that I never have to bring work home. Which IS a big plus. Also, unlike some of the other reviewers have experienced, I have an excellent manager. Pay is comparable to other local walk-ins and the schedule works fine in my life. Other than that? Meh. See below.

Cons

Things have changed a LOT over the past year: Management structural changes (REALLY bad decision), changing insurance to high-deductible plans, decreasing CME time and re-imbursement, no longer paying time and a half for holiday-eve shifts, big push (requirement) for providers to do marketing through phone calls, mailings and drop ins. None of the tech (old and new) ever seems to work and when you need to call for support (which is almost daily) you're on hold for ages while patients wait. And wait. Yes, there is cleaning and ordering and stocking and controls but honestly, that can be done pretty quickly and never bothered me. I'm more concerned that this ship may just be sinking. It is clear from the constant barrage of changes that corporate management's strategies are not working. They are scrambling to keep the clinics solvent.... and losing. It is hurting the providers and the patients who have come to rely on us. It is a shame that patient care has become such a numbers game. Number of sick visits, number of flu shots, number of walk aways, number of refer-outs, NPS scores, RVUs, and number of extra, extra things you feel compelled to do so you can get that tiny raise you so richly deserve. And yes, you will be constantly reminded of how your numbers can and should be better. This is not a job for a new grad or a new PA - they are STRUGGLING. It used to be a decent place to get your feet wet, but no longer. The expectations and acuity are greater than ever. In summary, this makes me sad. Good providers are leaving, good managers are leaving and these losses are felt by everyone. I hope things start to change for the better once again, but I'm not holding on to much hope.

Pros

1. Better pay than most 2. As a family NP, can treat both kids and adults at MC 3. Guidelines can be useful

Cons

1. Every other weekend requirement 2. Holiday requirement 3. Hard to get time off 4. High turn-over 5. Management is frequently changing in CT 6. Lonely working all by yourself and doing everything 7. Retail environment with impatient customers 8. No interaction with co-workers 9. SO MANY online education requirements it is ridiculous 10. The hiring process at MinuteClinic is a mess- there are way too many different people involved and it is very confusing who you are supposed to contact for what. Very disorganized and frustrating when hired at MinuteClinic and waiting for credentialing.

Pros

Helping people when time allows. Great core staff. Employee discount. Fast paced and always different.

Cons

Cooperate management care about numbers not people. Company adds more and more tasks while reducing hours. Personal Patient care has declined drastically. Staff is overworked and under paid. Low salary leads to revolving and under qualified staff. Cooperate mentality means issues with hr are difficult to fix if they ever get fixed. This means a lot of "call _" who says "call_" who says "email _" and so on. Very little mobility Constantly working over time while under staffed.
