"Just keep your head down" - Employee Motto

Pros

Great benefits package including generous PTO. A true resume builder for anyone looking to gain uncompensated experience.

Cons

Words that come to mind when thinking of CalOptima are 'anti-progressive', diversity unfriendly, hostile, non-competitive and unsafe. It's common place to bullied or retaliated against, without a union or employee advocate to create balance. Employees facing racism are directed to recieve therapy, and racism is tolerated by the organization. This lack of acceptance to catch up to the expectations set for employers in the year 2021 carries over into how departments are managed, the adoption of technologies and managing costs and resources. As an agency, there is little concern with doing things right (with adequate training and resources) but more concern with "who will we blame when our shortcomings are unearthed?". If integrity is important to you, you'll find CalOptima extremely stressful. CalOptima is heavily dictated by its dated legal council and Board of Directors chair who berates staff in public meetings to maintain a political appearance. Words you hear repeated at all levels of this organization, "just keep your head down". It's true, it's the only way to feel safe.

Pros

Call Center is overall a difficult job due to being micro managed and certain goals need to be reached but overall the department tries to make fun for you. There is a lot of opportunities to move to different positions after 6 months.

Cons

Training is not same across the board

Pros

Offered fully remote, was able to take time off to recover when I contracted COVID. I have a really supportive supervisor who listens to my concerns and my feedback is taken seriously. Since starting at Cal Optima my work/life balance has improved drastically. Since I’m fully remote I no longer dread commuting and I really look forward to clocking in and starting my day. I feel really motivated to take on more tasks and responsibility since Im not drained from battling rush hour traffic. Amazing benefits.

Cons

Lack of training, you really have to search for what you need in order to do your job functions

Their training sucks!

Pros

Clocking in was convenient because clocks were at the doorways; however, it was easier to be late this way clocking in just in time and still walking 5 min to your floor and desk.

Cons

Training is terrible. "Trainer" was always helping other people or in "meetings"and still building training materials. Assistant was incompetent and needed more training herself.
