Pros

(Work) Life balance. Great place to work if you have a family and want a 9-6 job

Cons

If you are looking for a place to learn, build your career and grow in a role, then IT @ Calportland is NOT the place to be. If you are motivated by challenges, then BE WARNED against working here ! If you are the types to stay in the box defined for you by "IT Leadership", the kinds that will show up to work at 8.00 AM, pack bags at 5.00 PM and be happy with receiving 3% annual raise; this is the place for you. Do not expect to work on any upcoming technology. Do not expect to span your day to day responsibility. You could actually work at Calportland for years, without making any meaningful contributions; and yes, no one would beat an eye. IT Management is mediocre at best. New ideas and initiatives brought up by employees are either quickly squashed or passed on by Management as their own. New technology is ridiculed. Management plays politics with people they supervise to make themselves look smart. They want to be the face of IT. There is little to no recognition. Management has 'Don't ask, just do' mentality. Many IT team members are eager to take on new roles and responsibilities, but Management is quick to shun them; especially if it is outside their roles and responsibilities. IT Management has no inclination to challenge the status quo.All of them including the CIO is happy to do just enough to keep the boat afloat. Life at Calportland feels like slow, painful death in solitary confinement.
