There is a catch.

Pros

Incredible training, professional development, exposure to CA State policies and Cal-OSHA Training.

Cons

LONG shifts, low pay, conditions that will push you to the brink, and random calls with short notice. If you're married, well prepare for long rotations away from your s/o, sometimes with zero/minimal contact. Fire calls are fun, but again, little/no contact with family etc. The compensation isn't great unless you rack up a lot of OT which will mainly happen on fires or emergencies. They WILL deploy you if needed, so don't go into this thinking you're above everyone else; because to the superiors you're literally just another face and another number.
