This is an excellent program for anyone wanting to go into Forestry, Firefighting, Environmental work, or Disaster Relief. Your C-1 (Leader) and group leaders care so much about your personal growth and want to help you succeed. They can even help you finish high school. This is a year long program that will help you to turn into a responsible adult that cares about the environment. You have the opportunity to work on natural disasters such as fires, oil leaks, hurricanes etc., and can work in trail work, clearing, and weed control.

Cons

This is not a job for the faint-hearted, or the weak. You work a 40 hour week outdoors, and are on call for emergencies. You may go on an 8-day spike, outside of your general area. Going to college is impossible while working, and you will be camping and working in all kinds of weather. On spikes and fires, you will not be able to come home. It's hard work, low pay, miserable conditions, but it's also super fun.
