Company that continues to thrive

Pros

Consistent, competent management and financial performance. Mission driven culture which genuinely values the well-being of employees. Long-term industry with major growth ahead. Fast paced and growing R&D team that encourages out of box thinking and measured risk taking.

Cons

Work from anywhere is a huge benefit and an important part of the Calix culture - but it does not come without its downsides. The company takes this seriously and is trying to create a remote culture that doesn't isolate individuals - time will tell whether younger / new employees truly thrive with only virtual interactions.

We appreciate your thoughtful review on your experience as a Calix employee! Our remote-first culture offers flexibility for our employees work-life balance, though we recognize that connection and belonging is an important aspect of our employee's happiness. To drive connection, we recently kicked off "Meetup Groups". These are groups for all major cities in North America that have at least ten employees residing there. The groups are set to meet quarterly for lunches, happy hours, team building events, volunteerism, and more. We encourage you to check with your Talent and Culture Business Partner to see if there is a meet up group for your city so you can join the fun!

Calix Cares!

Pros

Calix really cares about everyone at the Company through great wellness programs, recharge days, training, mentoring, onboarding....This is what I love to see from my employer. The work is challenging and fast moving. It is a healthy environment. I definitely feel like people across Calix care about each other. Compensation and Benefits are fair with a great bonus program. I love the flexibility of the remote work and the latitude my Manager gives me in regard to the times I work. Of course you have to get your work done well, but it is great that I know I make an event at my children's school or take care of other personal matters. Overall I would recommend highly to a friend.

Cons

After moving to a remote workforce (still a positive) there has been some issues with meetings being scheduled throughout the day with no care for people having time to recharge at lunch. There should be a 90 minute blackout between 10:30-Noon (PST) where across the US there are no meetings so people can eat and recharge or something similar. Maybe not every day but at least 3 times a week. I would also say that Meetings are not always well run where there is not an agenda and decision points at the meeting. Overall Meeting reduction is needed in both remote meetings and meetings where attendance is required such as Leadership Meetings. Too much time is spent in meetings where output in the actual job function suffers.

We are thrilled to see that you have had a positive experience as a Calix employee! Calix has a 'remote-first' environment and we realize this can pose challenges when working with team members across multiple time zones. We encourage employees to put their well-being first and ensure they have adequate break times throughout the work day so they can perform at their best! In an effort to support the Calix team, we have implemented 'meeting free' Fridays on a monthly basis (Recharge and Productivity Days) to combat some of the meeting fatigue you mentioned. Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss any other ideas you may have to increase productivity at Calix!
