      Pros

      Started as contract employee-hired as full-time employee after 14 months. Allowed me to take a week off (not paid, of course) for my honeymoon. The company saw the value in non-automated testing.

      Cons

      Communication between programmers and testers was non-existent. Frequently I would learn that a software build was going offline only by overhearing my manager's phone conversations. When I left, I was informed that my data entry was to be 100% accurate or I was going to be written up.

      The CEO, Thad Hill, is leading in the right way

      Pros

      Fun place if you actually like what you do and like being able to take on challenges. Thad Hill and the management team keep a flat organization (which is great) with a down to earth culture. The people are great and 'bad-actor' personalities don't survive long. Good pay and benefits.

      Cons

      If you only want to do what is listed on a job-description, this probably isn't the place for you. Workload can be intense, depending on where you are in the company.

      Pros

      One of the best reasons I enjoy working at Calpine are the people. We have the best and the brightest this industry has to offer. The compensation is great and the benefits are second to none. We have a management team that gets it and continues to move the company to higher heights.

      Cons

      As with any company there are always areas of improvement but I don't have any that I would highlight as being a showstopper.
