Pros

Coworkers at the plants are good people and easy to work with. Benefits are goodish, but they are on the downward spiral. Safety is a very high priority. Overall a comfortable place to work.

Cons

Wages are below average in the SF-Bay area even after the cost of living increase in 2015. Plant staff has to commute over an hour at the minimum to work, because no one can afford to life close to the plants. Budgets at some of the bay area plants are so low that most maintenance can't be performed. As a result of this we just keep putting duct tape over bandages until it blows up and the staff get blamed. Really bad training program for Instrumentation Controls Tech's

Pros

Salary targets are at the mid point of the industry - which are very competitive. Benefits were OK, however are declining at an alarming rate.

Cons

Little value is given to experience, Employees all treat as being "replaceable". Real power is centrally located with little chance to make a difference outside of the corporate office.

Pros

A lot of great people work at Calpine--management is welcoming and friendly. Good benefits (medical & paid vacation) and support from HR.

Cons

Not a lot of transparency in the organization--functional groups tend to keep to themselves. Company is spread out across the country, so it isn't always unified.
