      Location in Pasadena; intellectual stimulation; benefits even if start at 20 hours; full gym and pool, beautiful campus, campus event perks

      Cons

      Not a place to find a mate, generally. Most people are either young undergraduates with no time or attached post docs graduate students and professors.

      Pros

      I have been fairly happy with what Caltech has to offer. The campus provides a wealth of opportunities, is much less bureaucratic than other universities, and Pasadena is a great city to be in. If you have a good advisor, there's a lot you can do.

      Cons

      Teaching quality is highly variable and there's a lot of terrible teaching--for your graduate courses, you will often be better served by learning the material on your own. There are also some pretty terrible advisors--always be careful of who you agree to work for.

      Pros

      Caltech is a great community of people who love and support science. People are very friendly and willing to help. I worked in a lab the year after I graduated from there with my undergraduate degree and had fun.

      Cons

      I can't really think of any cons for working here. As an undergrad, I noticed some sexism. If you're interacting with students, they're often very stressed out.
