Pros

There's a great sense of community at Caltech. Most people have worked here for decades and it all feels like family. They are also willing to work around your personal schedule and telecommuting is easy since all the systems are available from anywhere with a VPN.

Cons

Caltech seems to hire a lot of "button-pushers" in the finance and admin functions that don't think for themselves. I haven't figured out yet if this is on purpose or caused by some other problem.

Pros

Friendly people that understand work-life balance, so and flexible hours are possible. Lot of independent work opportunities are available, and management of professors or mentors is helpful.

Cons

They expect a good amount of work to be done, so that does add onto the pressure of work. You are expected to also have a broad knowledge of many subjects, and sometimes, uncomfortable amount of cross functionality may be required.
