      Caltech has a collaborative environment and due to a smaller academic body, its a great environment in which to do science.

      Cons

      The environment can be competitive and in order to do well you must be assertive and forward in making projects work.

      Everyone is quite brilliant, which means that collaboration is often productive, and you rarely feel like you're working with incompetent folks.

      Everyone is quite brilliant, which means that it's hard to shine, or to make an impact. Also, sometimes the other students in my lab are reluctant to grant co-authorship when it's merited.
