Pros

Amazing research and resources (many of which are underutilized), very supportive of graduate students (may have to seek support but it's there!), really good networking opportunities, staff are friendly and great. Good health benefits. Decent salary considering other graduate schools and the Pasadena area cost of living.

Cons

Much of your experience is based solely on your advisor and lab so chose well! If research or your PI experience are going well, the other faculty are not particularly supportive or helpful. Not a particularly welcoming community for women or racial minorities.

Pros

-Working in one of the best research institution -You see amazing technologies develop here

Cons

-Low pay rate, since you get the honor in working at Caltech -Big disconnect between admin and research staff. Admin get all the ergonomic, following all the rules, getting meal penalty when you take lunch late while most research staff scoffs off rules, they dont know what OT pay is how much more a meal penalty
