Pros

There are 2 divisions in Canon India software development, ISDC and COE .. this is specially for the COE division , although ISDC does not fall far from it. 1. The senior management doesn't intervene in the technical decisions made by the engineers, so there is a - full on scope for any one who is keen on trying out new stuff and learn. 2. The RnR (rewards and recognition) programme is good and achievers are rewarded ever quarter by gift cards. 3. If the engineer displays good communication skills , he/she is allowed to communicate with the client. 4. Compensation and bonuses are above average.

Cons

1. No SDLC practices followed , when asked "Which SDLC pattern are we following ?" the usual answer is: "agile pattern" . What they really mean is , if there is some job - Do it !, don't waste time in asking stupid questions. 2. Since the management is not able to provide technical guidance and there is no Technical Architect , every engineer is doing what they feel like doing under pressure , the resulting code is a "MARVEL" to look at. 3. The topmost brass is comprised of old sales champions who have no respect for technical intricacies and the way they want results is by bullying the development teams and pushing timelines. 4. Timelines are decided randomly by the top brass, if the technical teams ask for 15 days , they are likely to get 4. 5. Default expectation to come and work on Saturdays and Sundays. 6. Delivery dates have NO relationship with amount of software written , some products are still waiting for a customer while they were rushed to the finish a 4 months ago and some demo's are committed to the client even before a single line of code has been written. 7. No onsite for technical teams whatsoever . All in all , this is a 15 year old company is displaying symptoms of a start-up.
