Pros

Great people, both based in offices and remote (work from home). Lots of opportunity to carve your own path in the company and make product suggestions and enhancements. Great technology and ideas on howto adapt it. Company meetings and developer meetings yearly face-to-face. Good office locations.

Cons

Not well organised and constantly changing. Lots of middle management with little added value. Teams are pushing Ubuntu to many different areas which ends up with little focus on each area. Company has grown rather large without necessarily making any more money.

Pros

At some companies, there are always a few people that obviously can't hack it, and yet somehow are able to coast. Not at Canonical. If you can't hack it, you're going to end up leaving, because we move at such a rapid pace. The work is interesting, there are always new opportunities and new problems to solve. It's hard to be bored here.

Cons

There tends to be a fluctuation in what Canonical is focusing on, because they are so young. Sometimes they aren't focusing in the right way, sometimes they are focusing to broadly, and sometimes it takes a few months to realize there's an adjustment needed (but it *always* happens, and we work through it).

Pros

A lot of smart people, potential for interesting work and technology for the right person in the right place. As long as you're enthused and energized it can be very rewarding. The company suits top notch hackers with diverse skills and unbounded enthusiasm.

Cons

Packaging OSes has a lot of drudge work around it. A lot of positions in Canonical are quite tedious. The more interesting work is around the company's effort to redefine itself as a products company. However, those efforts seem very scatter-gun.
