Pros

Very talented employees, and nice offices.

Cons

1. Diversity: If the goal is to work for a company that has little diversity, parades D&I around for show, and does not actually take action but instead has meeting after meeting discussing what “can” be done. This is the place for you. This is the topic that is the pinnacle of their gaslighting. They continuously act as if they are making strides with diversity but in reality they take unbiased training over and over and are convinced that it will resolve their issues. In reality CapTech does not want to be held accountable for their lack of diversity, and does not take action unless it is financially beneficial for them. All you see and hear at CapTech are the micro-aggressions, which make it a defeating place to work for as an employee and with as a client. 2. Bullying: When you speak truth to power there are consequences. You may not see it coming, but it almost always comes in a form of abuse. CapTech protects the people they want to. When there is someone in question that upper management likes they are given excuses for their bad behavior: “maybe he is going through something”. If upper management is not on your side you are surely going to feel isolated. They throw mental health around like it’s a toy: “I don’t know what’s going on at home but….” 3. Boys Club: Men are consistently promoted over women and PAID MORE. They hold higher positions of power. There is a STRONG white male culture, and the only way to get promoted is to play alongside one of these men in power. 4. Sexual Harassment: Many female employees have reported sexual harassment. Pre-COVID it was rampant at almost all CapTech events. HR supposedly addresses these issues but action is rarely taken, and HR is usually friends with the accused.

Pros

Very cool office space from an aesthetic end of things (see cons though) Uptown Charlotte location good for after-work activities Fun and supportive peers Some travel opportunities if that's what you're up for

Cons

Space The warp speed turnover and lack of space equates to a hot mess of people sitting at picnic benches in the kitchen or sitting on floors to do work. Compensation and benefits Salaries are paltry and barely within the average for most positions. Worst benefits package I have seen compared to quite literally every other job I've held. Leadership In Charlotte they are either incompetent or play favorites (or both) Lack of feedback Reviews and feedback are a joke. You will get fired with zero warning, zero prior discipline, and no history of mistakes, simply because a senior staff member doesn't like you on a personal level, end of story. I can't tell you how many people, who were excellent employees and put in 50-60 hour work weeks, I've seen this happen to, and then had it subsequently covered up by HR. It's one HUGE high school clique. Insane turnover I've never seen anything like it. It's a revolving door working at hyper speed. Picture a jet turbine. You have GROUPS of new hires quite literally every other week and so many people leaving that you have trouble keeping track. After-hours events It's an unspoken rule that your lack of attendance to these is held against you by senior managers, even if you have legitimate after-work activities that prevent you from going (Dr appointments, picking up your kids, etc). They won't do anything obvious to you about it in the open, but they will make sideways comments and use it as a means of playing favorites with other employees over you. Lack of direction, suppression, and huge bench periods I knew several people there who had been "on the bench" for up to 5 months or so, even when there were positions that had come available in that timeframe. Usually this happened to female developers, while the openings went to the male ones. If you are on a project, you are often not given any specific direction or idea of where you're supposed to insert yourself, and you have a huge chance of being outright prevented from speaking to clients. This was so bad that multiple times projects and presentation materials I completed entirely by myself, had to be presented to clients by someone who was more of a "favorite" and who often could not explain the work well because they were unfamiliar with it. Sabotage Some instances of senior staff purposely changing work someone did or misleading them in doing their work so that they could hold the contrived mistakes against them, especially when they didn't like the person and were looking for a means of getting rid of them. This company and this office in particular, is a terrible place to work. I left because I couldn't see a future for my career here and I still think it's the best decision I've made for my career to this day. Honestly, it's not worth the hassle because you will either be looking for work again in the next few months because you can't stand the place or because you were forced out by the rampant bullying that is enabled at this office.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. It is very unfortunate that your time with CapTech was not the CapTech experience we strive for. We do listen and put actions in place to address areas where we can improve based on feedback. For example, leadership is leaning in and working with the Charlotte team to raise awareness, transparency, and directly address concerns raised from recent Glassdoor reviews. One of CapTech’s founding principles is offering a positive work-life balance to our consultants. We are sorry your experience has caused you to doubt our founding principles and to question CapTech’s career advancement and promotional plans. We believe that each member of our CapTech team brings different thoughts, opinions, and experiences and, together, those unique qualities bring value to CapTech and drive better results for the clients. We appreciate your contributions during your career and value your feedback. I would like to make myself available to you if you are interested in talking through these concerns you have raised. Please feel free to contact me directly at kapostolides@captechconsulting.com. - Katy Apostolides, HR Director

Pros

- Staff augmentation shop so the work is easy - Some nice people in the lower levels of the company - It could be a better company if there was better local office leadership

Cons

- Staff augmentation, so don't expect to use skills you have or learn new ones - Toxic culture, bullying, and retaliation driven by immature and insecure leadership - Low compensation compared to competitors with expensive benefits - Not prepared at all for COVID, so they furloughed and laid off most staff while leadership not only stayed but also took no pay cuts

We appreciate that you took the time to write a review and are sorry to hear about your experience and departure from CapTech. What you describe is not what we wish for any CapTecher. Hopefully, you reached out to your HR Rep, or our Ethics Hotline while you were here, as the environment you reference is unacceptable here at CapTech and would activate further investigation. Regarding COVID, as many others will attest, throughout 2020 sacrifices were made across all of CapTech, including our leadership, in order to weather the economic storm with minimal impact to our CapTechers, and provide support throughout these tough times. I hope this at least clarifies any misperceptions you had. –Katy Apostolides, HR Director

Pros

If one is in the early stages of their career (recent college graduate to maybe 5 -7 years or so) Captech can be a very good place to grow your career. You will get fantastic growth opportunities not available at many companies or firms. Dependent on where one is at in their career; you’ll want to start formulating your exit plan around the 24 to 36 month mark. Colleagues/peers are very good to work with; some of the absolute best I’ve worked with in my career. This can often change the higher the title gets, with a handful of exceptions. Many of the very talented folks simply leave poor and toxic leadership for better opportunities. Offices are modern and have nice amenities; however, perpetually over filled. When not on-site with clients; spending all day on a couch or chair with your laptop in your lap can be typical, unless one is part of a certain practice area.

Cons

Leadership in the office is poor. The show and talk often seem good, but leadership is best described as fraudulent. Unless you are comfortable being a sycophant, be ready for excessive politics and having to deal with highly manipulative and toxic behavior. Some examples include narcissistic motivations, ego driven decision making, impulsive reactions, bullying, and gaslighting. Some leaders will take credit for business someone else developed and sold if it can advance their own interests. I’ve witnessed an office leader viewing You Tube gaming videos during team reviews of pending client presentations and pitches. Colleagues are routinely bad mouthed by leaders when outside the office. The adage, “people don’t leave companies, they leave bosses” is true here. Turnover is high and was high before COVID-19. A large percentage, if not a majority, of senior managers and directors have short tenures; creating a deficit of continuity or consistency. Office growth does not sufficiently explain this. Transparency from leadership is lacking, but tremendous energy and lip service are expended to foster the perception of transparency. If leaders are being transparent, they shouldn’t have to constantly tell everyone how they are being transparent. “Well done is better than well said.” Servant leadership? For many leaders this means how do those around me serve my agenda, my schedule, and my benefit. The criticisms found in other reviews regarding promotions are accurate and fair. Every promotion cycle includes multiple “head scratchers” as to what criteria were applied to warrant that promotion. Favoritism is rampant. A strong majority of the work is higher end staff augmentation type. Salary is a little below average to average. Most of the time there is balance and flexibility between life and work. However, if you happen to have a super demanding client; you’ll be expected to grind out long hours to meet client demands. You won’t see much additional reward for doing so.

Thank you for your review and advice. It is unfortunate that your experience has not been what we desire for our CapTechers. Many of the new programs we put into place to strengthen our leadership, coaching, career progression, and culture across all offices were to launch this year but have been on pause due to COVID-19. Hopefully we can reinstate those programs later this year and get back on course soon. Meanwhile, I would like to further discuss your thoughts and feedback. Please reach out to me directly if you are available to do so. –Katy Apostolides, HR Director

Pros

There are some very good people who work at CapTech - intelligent, trusted mentors, well meaning. I learned an absolute ton while working there, and I am extremely grateful for some of the stretch roles I was put into. On a whole I had great clients that I genuinely enjoyed working with.

Cons

The leadership at CapTech is inept at best, toxic at worst. Staffing is very short sighted, and they seem to be in a mindset of just throwing bodies at things. Career growth is an absolute mess. Promotion standards are extremely inconsistent, and can depend a lot on who your coach is. Your performance and internal contributions don't matter much if leadership just doesn't like you (for whatever reason). Women, be prepared to be constantly smiling and upbeat. This is the only way the male leadership will find you even minimally worthy. You'll have to work 10x as hard anyway. Please don't bring your authentic self to work, it will hurt you. They love to reward toxicity, as evidenced by someone getting a large promotion while under HR investigation for bullying. HR is generally untrustworthy and will tell lies about employees to leadership.

It is very disheartening to read this review. I agree that we have fabulous people at CapTech, and I also agree that they are genuine, look out for everyone's best interest and are extremely collaborative and willing to share their knowledge. The rest of your comments are surprising. I see you are no longer with CapTech, and I wish I could have had the opportunity to speak with you prior to your departure so I could better understand your experience. As I look at many of our talent management activities (e.g. staffing, promotion, recognition), I am extremely proud of the structures and processes that have been established over the last few years. Our workplace flexibility, while a wonderful employee benefit, has definitely provided our staffing team with additional challenges as they work to best match individuals with our clients' needs. Everyone is encouraged to bring their true self to work, and there are policies in place to support, empower and protect our employees' ability to do just that. I am disappointed to hear that an employee (whether past or present) doesn't feel that way - we continually receive feedback that our leaders are optimistic, genuine, encouraging and go out of their way to find the good/strengths in each of our people. While we wish that you had departed on a different note, we appreciate the time and energy you gave to our clients and our teams. We hope that your new adventure is a better fit. -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR
