Pros

Work Life Balance is good. Food on campus is good.

Cons

Toxic Culture. Terrible leadership. Stack "Ranking". Between a never ending backlog of vulnerabilities, Enterprise "initiatives", and broken deployment pipelines, you'll get the opportunity to ship useless features. Politics and optics reign supreme here and it shows in our "evaluations". It's no wonder the same people are 15-17 years in the same role/ department.

Pros

Work/life balance is the best I've ever had. Deadlines are generally pretty lenient as well.

Cons

The annual review process uses stack racking: which I think is the root cause of one of the most passively toxic work cultures I've been a part of. Teams put forward a great front of working together to solve problems, but once the review cycle hits it all boils down to how much your manager likes you as a person. Innovative engineering and extra effort spanning the whole year takes a back seat to how much you've stroked your upper management's ego over the year. I've seen fantastic engineers get poor ratings due to not flashing their accomplishments while subpar engineers get promotions from knowing how to run their mouths about doing the most trivial tasks to seem impressive to management. Overall it's an incredibly stressful environment for employees who care about improvement rather than boot-licking.

Pros

Good benefit package. Good WLB.

Cons

It is a bank - meaning that c1 does NOT have a good tech culture that they are bragging about. If you decide to join, you might want to be mindful of selecting a good group. Talk to your future coworkers before you join. It will help. For me, it had been the worst experience in my career so far. I happened to experience organizational changes few months later after I joined. I can write a book to rant about my experience with C1 but I would like my review to be served as an informational guide for people who are considering to accept an offer: 1) The work is easy. The majority of the time I spent here is at meetings listening other people to argue about some nonsense and work that the manager tries to put the team through in order to make us look busy. 2) There are some chance that you can fall under a horrible manager. It depends on how “lucky” you are because reorg happens often. Btw, the definition of an “incompetent leader” to me: full of ego, hollow in knowledge, insecure, micromanaging, bossy, couldn’t care less about emoloyee’s wellbeing. It was my first time encountering toxic people in my life, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. 3) Stack ranking at a bank? As many of the other reviews have mentioned, your performance is evaluated against people at the same level as you. If you get a manager who is willing to advocate for you, then you are the lucky one. Although it is not guaranteed that you will get a “above strong” rating, your life will still be easier. If you happen to get a bad manager who only cares about the time you put into nonsense work because they don’t know much about tech, you will be as miserable as me :). Choose wisely.
